Regular physical activity and proper nutrition are an integral piece to a healthy child's life.  Establishing regular healthy behaviors in children at an early age will increase the chances those healthy behaviors are retained later in life.  Creating opportunities for physical activity within the family is easy, fun, and can create great opportunities for you to spend time with your children. 

Physical activity should be regularly scheduled throughout the week and every member of the family should keep track of their own physical activity. Each member of your family should find an activity that makes them feel successful while being active. Below are ideas on how to incorporate more physical activity into your family time.  For additional information, reference the resources below

 

Fun Family Exercise

  • Go to a park
  • Rake leaves or shovel snow
  • Canoe for an afternoon
  • Plant a garden
  • Take a nature hike
  • Ice Skate
  • Mini Golf
  • Visit "pick-your-own" farms
  • Walk your kids to school
  • Race up stairs instead of using elevators
  • Encourage your children to join a sports team
